I’ve long been intrigued by the complements of yin and yang, plant and animal, sensual and spiritual, shadow and light, and fluid/ crystalline. The paradox of opposites asks how these elements can exist and even flourish together. The viewer can contemplate the idea of finding balance in the face of opposite forces.

My art-making process is influenced by travel to China where I studied Taoist teachings more than ten years ago. Attempting to be “in harmony with the Universe” I use techniques that can’t be fully controlled. I easily enter a trance-like state while painting. Allowing my dream state to direct the process, I often don’t know what I’m doing until I’m finished. I like to think of my images as visual mantras; ones you come back to again and again, leading you in a new direction.

    Hi Hannah
Thanks for those great pictures of your latest journey…did your camp create one particular art piece? Sounds like everyone got involved in the temple… I loved your distillation in words of the whole undertaking… xo

  2. We did not create art this year, as I was in a smaller side camp. Instead one person designed an art car: did the electrical wiring, built a dome and hinged it, and DJ’d most of our music; then a few of us painted a cover for it. The temple is my favorite part – it’s the most interactive and IMO the most evocative installation. xo to you!
